We recently had the privilege of partnering with the management team at the Hilton DoubleTree Inn in central Phoenix to design and implement a state-of-the-art video surveillance system that does exactly that. This project highlights our comprehensive approach to commercial security, moving beyond simple camera placement to creating an integrated solution that addresses specific operational challenges.
The Challenge: Comprehensive Coverage with Proactive Alerts
The goal for this renowned hotel was clear: achieve complete property visibility while empowering staff to respond instantly to potential security events. Their previous system had blind spots, particularly at key exterior access points, and staff had no way of being immediately alerted to door breaches, leaving them reactive instead of proactive.
Their objectives were:
- Eliminate blind spots in corridors and service areas
- Deter unauthorized access through exterior doors
- Provide the front desk staff with a real-time, clear view of all activity
- Create instant notifications for specific security events to enable swift response
Our Integrated Solution: Surveillance Meets Access Control
Our team designed a custom system that integrated video surveillance with door contact sensors, creating a truly intelligent security ecosystem.
1. Total Property Coverage with 25 Cortex High-Definition CCTV Cameras
We strategically installed a mix of 25 weatherproof vandal dome and turret cameras throughout the property to ensure there were no blind spots.
Exterior: The COR-IP5TRVE turret cameras cover all entry and exit points, the main parking lot, the perimeter fencing, and the pool area. We employed the COR-IP8TRW, a special 180° panoramic dome camera for the porte cochere for maximum field of view.
Interior: Lobbies, corridors, elevators, fitness center, and back-of-house service areas are all under clear surveillance. We used the COR-IP5DFE, a robust vandal dome camera with a 2.8mm wide angle lens to perfectly frame each area, ensuring optimal detail capture.
Recorder: We installed an enterprise class 64 channel NVR, the COR-IPN64-H8E for its ample processing at 640 Mbps and plentiful room for scaling. This recorder supports RAID and e-SATA for advanced storage expansion and management capabilities.
2. Centralized Live Monitoring with a 32" Display
For the front desk, we installed a sleek 32-inch professional monitor wired directly back to the central Network Video Recorder (NVR). This provides reception staff with a constant, live feed of all camera views, allowing them to monitor guest activity, verify visitors, and oversee the property without having to access the security office.
3. Intelligent Alarm Triggers for Instant Notification
This was the critical feature that transformed the system from passive recording to active security. For eight critical exterior doors (including emergency exits, delivery entrances, and storage rooms), we installed armored magnetic alarm contacts directly to the interior camera surveilling these doors.
Here's how this intelligent integration works:
- When one of these eight doors is opened, the magnetic contact is triggered
- This signal is immediately sent to the alarm input on the NVR
- The NVR is programmed to recognize this signal and execute a specific action: it automatically triggers the camera watching that door to enlarge to full-screen on the 32" monitoring display
- An audible alert can also be configured to notify staff audibly
This means the moment a delivery door is propped open or an emergency exit is used, the front desk staff doesn't have to scan through 25 video channels. The system shows them exactly what is happening, in real-time, allowing for immediate verification and response.
