Engineering a Seamless Security Ecosystem: A 42 AI-Powered Camera Installation Project
How we unified a sprawling property with industrial-grade surveillance, wireless networking, and a full alarm system, all while saving our client money.
At GL Electronics, we thrive on complex challenges. This project for Kachina Rentals in Gallup, New Mexico was a perfect example of how strategic planning and cutting-edge technology can transform security for a property with multiple buildings and significant distance between them. This wasn't just about installing cameras; it was about designing a fully integrated, intelligent, and cost-effective ecosystem.
Here's a breakdown of how we brought enterprise-level security to our client's quarter-mile+ property.
The Challenge: Unifying a Dispersed Property
The client's needs were multi-faceted:
Comprehensive Coverage: Secure multiple buildings and the large areas between them.
Intelligent Monitoring: Move beyond simple recording to proactive, intelligent real-time alerts.
Infrastructure Hurdles: Span a significant distance without the cost and delay of trenching for fiber optic cables.
Network Expansion: Reliably connect a new building to the main office network without a separate, expensive internet subscription.
Complete Security: Protect the new building with a full intrusion alarm system along with CCTV.
The Solution: A Masterclass in Integrated Systems
We designed and deployed a solution that addressed every single challenge with precision and foresight.
1. AI-Powered Surveillance: 42 Eyes with a Brain
The heart of the system is a fleet of 42 industrial-rated cameras by Cortex Security, each equipped with advanced onboard analytics. This isn't just a video feed; it's an intelligent detection system. We used the COR-IP5DFE for the inside offices, and a mix of COR-IP8TRF and COR-IP8TRVA for the perimeter of buildings along with the storage container areas.
Human & Vehicle Detection: The system filters out false alarms from animals or swaying trees, sending alerts only for actual people and vehicles. This saves invaluable time for security personnel.
License Plate Recognition (LPR): Specialized cameras capture and log license plates at all entry and exit points, creating a searchable database for enhanced investigative capabilities.
White LED lights for maximum visibility in color at all hours of the night: All perimeter cameras are configured to turn on LED lights at 7:30 PM, similar to that of a parking lot lights for unity and reinforced deterrence for any encroachers looking to lurk around the property after nightfall.

2. Industrial-Grade Hardware Built to Last
Understanding the harsh realities of outdoor installation, every piece of equipment—from the cameras themselves to the network switches and enclosures—is industrial-rated and housed in NEMA-rated boxes. This ensures reliability through rain, dust, heat, and cold, guaranteeing maximum uptime and protecting the client's investment.

3. Bridging the Distance with a Point-to-Point Radio System
Trenching over a quarter-mile is cost-prohibitive and disruptive. Our elegant solution was a high-speed, point-to-point wireless radio system by Ubiquiti. This creates an invisible "fiber in the air," a dedicated, high-bandwidth link between the main server rack and the remote cameras on light poles and other buildings. It provided the robust connection needed for high-quality video streams without the massive cost of underground cabling.

4. The Nerve Center: Full Server Rack Installation
All this data flows into a centralized, professional server rack installation at the main building. This clean, organized, and scalable setup houses the network switches, the powerful Network Video Recorder (NVR), battery backup UPS and all supporting equipment. It's the secure and manageable core of the entire operation.
5. A Bonus Win: Network Extension & Cost Savings
Leveraging the new wireless backbone, we did more than just carry video signals. We extended the office's local area network (LAN) to the new building. This means employees there have full, wired and wireless access to company servers, printers, and shared files, all managed seamlessly from the main IT closet. Most importantly, we eliminated the need for a second internet bill, saving the client thousands of dollars annually—a value-add they truly appreciated. We deployed the TP-Link Omada business Wi-Fi mesh AP along with an equipment controller for remote access and management.
6. Total Protection with a PowerG Wireless Alarm System
For the new building, we installed a state-of-the-art PowerG wireless alarm system by Qolsys and DSC. Known for its incredible range, encryption, and reliability, PowerG allowed for a clean installation with minimal drilling. We integrated sensors on doors and windows, motion detectors, and a keypad, providing a complete intrusion detection solution that complements the video surveillance perfectly.
The Result: A Smarter, Safer, and Connected Property
The client now enjoys a unified security and network infrastructure that is:
- Proactive: AI features alert them to real threats, not just motion.
- Comprehensive: Every critical area is covered, inside and out.
- Resilient: Industrial hardware ensures performance in any weather.
- Cost-Effective: The wireless bridge saved upfront installation costs and ongoing internet fees.
- Managed & Scalable: The centralized server rack makes management easy and allows for future expansion.
This project exemplifies our philosophy: true security is more than hardware; it's a thoughtfully engineered system designed to solve real-world problems.
